Somewhat surprisingly, the Nai Harn area is home to only few resorts but it is a popular location for the Phuket expat community, retirement homes/villas and of course many locals. It makes for an incredible concentration and variety of western and Thai restaurants, little pubs, pastry shops, places offering foot massage or Thai traditional massage. THESE are the things that really make a holiday after all! There is quite a lot within walking distance; a bicycle (available from the resort for free) will get you easily to all of the highlights.

Designed and build by perfectionist, artistic owner for him self and not with speculation in mind makes all the difference in craftsmanship and the hearth put into it. The project is extra ordinary in most details and caters to the artistic and romantic personality to whom uniqueness, beauty and quality is top priority. It is not for the buyer counting square meters, dollars and maximum profits.

We come to the tropics in the winter to enjoy the sun, the light, the warm breeze and refreshing water. Therefore the emphasis has been on the exterior with large triangular, free hanging terraces with lasting weather resistant furniture on those. The 12 terraces provide great views and breeze, yet sufficient shadow and rain protection from the majestic triangular Sydney opera- like roof design with overhang. At present its a boutique resort with high end spa and garden restaurant potential, but can serve well as a private luxury estate, when wood wall upstairs in big house is easily removed, thereby providing a large spectacular unit there with a highly aesthetic and unusual shape. All units are different.

For commercial use 3 extra units can be gained easily and inexpensively by adding toilets behind the TV room, a toilet on the upper floor of the lake bungalow and a dividing wall in the king suite. A retractable wall or double door can make it flexible as both 2 sing or one king suite.
An extra big no. 10 unit can be made on the upper floor of the service building and the roof of that can be changed into the same style as the other buildings, without need to remove the existing main roof structure. OWNER/DESIGNER/BUILDER has extensive experience and knowledge with materials as an inventor and in house construction since childhood. I had a business in Oslo restoring old wooden houses in 1983 and 84. I have a vast knowledge about science, that I studied all my life out of passion reads Scientific American magazine weekly and the knowledge has been applied everywhere in this project.
THE SUPERSTRUCTURE. There are many different types of cement for different purposes. The correct type and mixture has been applied for each purpose. The mostly unskilled Thai labor often add to much cement to the mixture thinking this makes stronger with soft and bridle concrete as a results. All critical places with high stress loads has been enforced with extra steel and heavy duty H steel beams inside the structure for example in the pillars carrying the free hanging terraces and in the front cross beams supporting the overhanging roofs. All round steel is profiled and 12, 16 and 19 mm. The rugged strength of the triangle geometry has been applied with the steel in the basis of the 2 bungalows. The base of the big house (media room) has steel enforced concrete walls not brick walls. The base and tops of the concrete super structures has been cast in one go same day insuring maximum strength. The steel supporting the roof tiles are closed 1 x 1 inch tubes, and not the commonly used and much weaker L profile. In critical places closed steel beams has been painted inside also with red oxide primer (poured through by the gallons)and the tubes filled with concrete to increase strength and prevent corrosion. This applies to all the umbrella structures as well. The large central beam in the central pavilion umbrella consist of 10 mm high grade steels and in the pool bar of 6 mm high grade both heavily enforced at the base last 100 years.

WOOD. 100 % of all wood is termite resistant hardwood such as lompohr, teak, redwood, maka and tekeanthong. The project is completely termite free due to buildings on stilts and highest quality woodwork and wood treatment. Imported, hardened, galvanized steal screws (not nails) are used in all joints where these are better than galvanized nails by far most joints. Joints are cut exactly to avoid gaps, wood filler and root. The main facial roof boards are joined with up to 40 cm hardened spring steel in 13 mm thickness locking the pieces in place and ensuring long life. They are joined to the buildings by bolts allowing easy replacement after 30 or so years of age. Only the best imported paints are used (Ronseal and Wood Teck). Joints have been painted 3 times before assembly. All vertical wood near ground has been submerged in Unithane insect poison for 2 days before embedding in the cement stair case base. The joints are in critical places and on all roofs sealed with high grade silicone, but not at the bottom to allow the wood to breathe.

ROCKS. More than 200 tons are natural and have been selected, bought and transported from around the island half of them on my old pickup yes, overload no problem in Thailand. I did not fall for the temptations of using cheap and easy to carry small rock fractures put together with cement as other projects do. They have all been rolled and pulled from the road manually and put in place manually mostly by myself with pullie, levers and stone age technique back braking.
